The cover of Perfect Betrayal, the second book in the Double Helix is one of my favorites. I told Jason, my cover designer, that it was a story of a man betrayed by enemies and friends, by men and women. I talked about cascading events, each decision piling upon another until it reaches its inevitable, devastating conclusion.
Jason said, “Uh, huh.” (Thankfully, he didn’t say, “You’re nuts.”) He went away for a couple of days, and then came back with this…
I love the dominoes and the male and female hands on opposite ends, poised to trigger a cascade of events. The dominoes will fall, and Danyael Sabre’s fragile, normal life with them. The yin and yang, as well as the dazzle of blue and orange embody the opposing forces, wrangling to control Danyael, the alpha empath. The ring on the man’s hand is a hint as to the owner–a powerful general in the US army. The female hand belongs to Xin, the clone of a 1,200 BCE Chinese queen, general, and high priestess. In the end, it’s a toss up as to who is the more dangerous… Check it out here.
